Obligatory Emo Post

It was bound to happen at some point, that post where I give you, dear readers, an update on my life. I've reached an interesting milestone. Now instead of being totally freaked out I've upgraded to just being totally unhappy....I win!!! Sigh...and it could change back tomorrow...Fun!

By the way, that's Miley Cyrus's brother....yeah.

Rotten Apple

Is it just me or did Macworld 2009, the last Macworld ever, suck a huge ass...I've been seriously considering going Mac for my next computer because Microsoft has essentially destroyed my faith in humanity and I don't hate myself enough to use Vista or Windows 7. But what's with this year's announcements? iWork and iLife, okay, that's nice and everything. Where's the new Mac Mini and refreshed iMacs? Nowhere?, okay. What's this...a crippled, totally overpriced, 17" Macbook Pro that nobody asked for? I'm insulted and I'll tell you why. Touting a non-user replaceable battery as a 'feature' is testing their Apple fanboy bullshit to the very limit. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever except to increase their profit margin and screw their customers to make a previously removable battery non-removable. Why do you think they sell so many new iPods? If they had replaceable batteries they wouldn't hawk nearly as many. I'm very impressed with Mac OSX and totally insulted by their business practices.

The Apple fanboy will undoubtedly say "they must be doing something right", well, okay...they're making lots of money but that benefits me how? I don't give a fuck how big their profits are. If I'm going to buy an Apple anything I don't want to be insulted right off the bat. I have a job as a consumer to avoid being ripped off. And Apple specifically and proactively wants to rip me off.

Stoners Erupt In Anger Over Dr. Gupta's Weed Comments....Eat Cheetoes In Protest

You may recall Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the renaissance man who is probably most recognizable from CNN. He has recently been tapped by Barack Obama to be surgeon general and a Time article featuring him hit digg earlier. It's an article written by Dr. Gupta himself entitled Why I Would Vote No On Pot.

Naturally, the digg community is all up in arms about Dr. Gupta's dislike for marijuana for recreational use. If you ask me, I agree with him 1000%.

What do voters need to know before going to the polls?

The first is that marijuana isn't really very good for you. True, there are health benefits for some patients. Several recent studies, including a new one from the Scripps Research Institute, show that THC, the chemical in marijuana responsible for the high, can help slow the progress of Alzheimer's disease. (In fact, it seems to block the formation of disease-causing plaques better than several mainstream drugs.) Other studies have shown THC to be a very effective antinausea treatment for people--cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, for example--for whom conventional medications aren't working. And medical cannabis has shown promise relieving pain in patients with multiple sclerosis and reducing intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients.

But I suspect that most of the people eager to vote yes on the new ballot measures aren't suffering from glaucoma, Alzheimer's or chemo-induced nausea. Many of them just want to get stoned legally. That's why I, like many other doctors, am unimpressed with the proposed legislation, which would legalize marijuana irrespective of any medical condition.

Personally, I'm a proponent of the decriminalization of certain drugs like marijuana, not the legalization. I think the courts are wasting huge amounts of time and energy on drug users and the system takes otherwise normal people and churns out actual criminals.

With that said, I'd like to call on folks to live honestly, all of the complete bullshit I read in the digg comments is so tired. I don't particularly care if people get high but don't pretend that it's anything more than wanting to sit on your ass and get stoned. It's a totally fucking useless activity. Again, I have nothing against useless activities, I engage in them often. But shut up about all this philosophical and conspiratorial bullshit. Dr. Gupta is a fucking brain surgeon and he knows what he's talking about.

I'd say it's pretty accurate.

Do Not Buy This

So there's a really, really fucking irritating audio dropout during the very first second of this flick. It's a DTS glitch...which could be fixable if you could choose Dolby Digital (which the box says is present and it ain't). How do you fuck up the very first second of a movie and then release it? Fuck Disney.

*update*

Apparently I'm not the only one having problems with both the DVD and the Blu-Ray Disc version of Wall-E. Thanks Disney, did you all hire 13 year-olds to author the DVD and BD? Thanks for fucking up the only movie worth buying on Blu-Ray.
